“Then you must make your future dream a present fact. You do this by assuming the feeling of your wish fulfilled. By desiring to be other than what you are, you can create an ideal of the person you want to be and assume that you are already that person. If this assumption is persisted in until it becomes your dominant feeling, the attainment of your ideal is inevitable..” Neville Goddard The Power of Awareness copyright 1952
The mind is a really amazing thing. It’s capable of lifting us to our greatest potential and It’s also capable of creating our deepest despair.
So many of us are born into chaotic and dysfunctional environments. Our thought processes get shaped by what we observe and what we interpret, so it’s no wonder that as adults, our external lives mirror what we’ve been taught to feel on the inside.
The idea that our thoughts create our lives isn’t a new concept. The Emerald tablet written in the 6th century B.C. gave rise to this idea. Carlos Castaneda, Neville Goddard and Napoleon Hill wrote about it in the middle of the 20th century and Rhonda Byrne author of the Secret, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Esther Hicks and a slew of others are modern day advocates.
We know that this is a very real phenomenon because the placebo effect exists. It’s a well documented occurrence. If a patient believes that they taking pain medication to help ease their pain they will feel a reduction in pain in their physical bodies. So it is possible to convince our minds into thinking something is real and in so doing it becomes our reality.
When we think of the afterlife we think of our emotional states as being pure love and joy. We believe this because people who have had near death experiences tell us that this is what they were experiencing. Authors like Anita Moorjani, in her book Dying to be Me and author Dr. Mary Neal, who wrote To Heaven and Back all say that all of the problems and pains they were experiencing melted away and they just became pure love.
If we are pure love then it would sure make sense that our creator would bestow on us the power to create the life that we wanted simply by wishing for it, thinking about it and believing that we are worthy enough to have it.
Because this world has become so twisted, corrupt and perverse, we are born into a place where our minds become inundated with distractions, negativity, obsessive thoughts, feelings of unworthiness, shame, scarcity and envy. Right out of the gate we are taught these behaviors and beliefs and they shape who we become and the lives that we create for ourselves.
As a codependent we often are so lost in our relationship and the problems of others we don’t know what we want or wish for. We become obsessed with trying to find solutions to other people’s problems that we don’t focus on our own and most feel incredibly shameful, unworthy and unlovable. All of these thoughts are the exact opposite of how we should be thinking and feeling in order to manifest the life that we want to be living.
Stop me if you’ve heard this before – “Your feelings create your life.” I’ve heard and read this phrase hundreds of times. It’s everywhere. Why? Because it’s true. We act and react upon our feelings. Our thinking is affected and fueled by what we’re feeling. When we are in the midst of an obsessive thought we are in this cyclical state of thoughts fueling feelings, feelings fueling thoughts and it seems impossible to get out of, because in order to break out of it, we’d have to think a different thought and we can’t because we feel so awful and we can’t just make ourselves feel better, because our thoughts keep churning over and over again about all of the things that are making us feel the way we are feeling.
Changing the Way We Think
When I was in the depths of despair I knew I couldn’t go on thinking and feeling that way. I hurt all the time and I couldn’t stop picturing my ex with his new woman. I had to do something. In my quest I came across something that was a game changer for me and started me on the road to becoming a Hypnotherapist. It’s called the Silva method and it was created by Jose Silva in 1960. He believed that he could improve his children’s grades and make them better people by planting suggestions in the mind while in a hypnotic state.
The company, now run by his children, have a video on Youtube called the 3 to 1 method. At the time I first discovered it I was full of anxiety and I have yet to find a hypnosis script that makes me feel so relaxed. Even though I haven’t listened to the video in years, I am still able to follow one of its suggestions. In an awakened state if I find myself feeling stressed out I simply repeat and visualize the #3 – 3 times and I can feel my muscles relax and my whole body relax and my heart rate slows down. It’s incredible.
After experiencing that, I thought, damn I can give myself a suggestion of something I want to do, think or be and it will happen when I wake up. What I would find out later in Hypnosis training is that it doesn’t exactly work that way and that Stage Hypnosis is not real. You can’t convince a person to do something that they wouldn’t ordinarily do when they are awake. For instance you can’t convince someone to commit murder under hypnosis.
What happens, in reality, is that during a certain stage of consciousness (Theta Wave) the subconscious mind becomes very susceptible to suggestion. So someone could at that stage suggest that you were going to exercise every day. You would want to repeat this script daily and you would find that you were inclined to feel that you should exercise and you would more than likely act on that inner urging.
After finding the Silva method I read a book about a hypnotherapist (I can’t remember the name of the book or author) in it, the author said that as he would read a script for a client he would find that he too, would experience being in a state of hypnosis and would also feel it’s effects. So he concluded that you could experience hypnosis just by reading the script.
So with that information I started writing my own scripts and included things like, letting go emotionally of my ex, sticking to no contact, focusing on my own life, exercise, nutrition… I also created a script so that when I start to feel myself getting a cold or not feeling well I listen to my script and I would feel myself instantly starting to heal. (I’ll record and post this video on Facebook over the next couple of weeks).
If you want an extra boost on your road to healing and to help you get over your Narcissist, or even if you want to incorporate a new behavior into your life, write your own hypnosis script – the induction – the body – and the wake up. Stick to one theme per script. Go to YouTube put on some Theta waves and hypnotize yourself into new behaviors and thoughts. Record it and listen to it whenever you need a boost.
3….Starting to awaken from hypnosis now….2..Looking forward to seeing beneficial results….1…Eyes open and fully alert.
Your Comments!!!!!
Hi, does this method help narcissists at all? Do you think that narcs are unreachable completely? Do they ever get better? I’m not sure if I am a narcissist or not. My mother is. I have struggle with some traits but not all and do seem to be able to introspect and see my own issues so maybe not? I’ve gotten a lot of help with hypnotherapy also. I don’t know. Either way I found the article helpful definitely going to try. Thank you for writing it.
